Upstate Eight, a Classic Course!

Sunday, October 20 2019 - Upstate Eight Conference Cross Country

Upstate 8 Conference Championships 10/19/2019
August 12th! That was the first official day of Cross Country 2019! Fast forward 10 weeks later and we are the conclusion of our regular season schedule. Time sure flies when you're having fun! Saturday we had the opportunity to run at an "old school" Cross Country course which included hills, forest paths, and a creek to run through! Let's not forget the Elk herds and the Bison! While it wasn't a big day for PR's given the difficulty of the course, we still had reason to celebrate! Madelyn Weber turned in our lone PR but we also saw the return of Alex Gonzalez! Alex has been recovering from a bad bout of shin splits and was able to retun just in time for Conference. Maggie Riley made her Varsity debut and Kylie DeNardo (11th) and Kelly Anderson (15th) ran their way to All-Conference honors! Congratulations girls! As with all beginnings and endings, we said goodbye to the high school Cross Country careers of 2 seniors Shayan Malik (4 years) and Casey Wheeler (1 year.) There's just something special about seniors! Thanks for your wisdom, humor, and leadership! Overall the girls ran well on a tough course. My guess is 30-45 seconds slower than last weeks 3.0 adjusted time at Metamora where almost everyone had a career day! Next up is the IHSA Regionals at Elmwood Park on Saturday morning. The Varsity Girl's run at 10:00! Top 5 teams qualify to run the following week at Sectional. If there's ever a time to step-up it's now! You're not only running for yourselves, your running for your teammates!
